If individuals in your organization are using an older version of Office, we recommend you upgrade to the latest version. It could also happen because you haven't assigned a license to yourself or your users.

Synchronization Issues

Not all Office 365 subscription plans come with the fully installed Office applications. See the bottom of the Office for business column for a list of plans that don't include the Office desktop client. So what are the usual Office 365 problems and how can a business or user solve them?

Computers running Windows Vista or Windows XP don't meet system requirements to install Office

You then deploy Office by using the software deployment method you typically use. To help you set up your organization, see Set up Office 365 for business – Admin Help. If activation failures began after you upgraded to Windows 10, see Office error code 0x8004FC12 when activating Office. • Check POP3 and SMTP settings for connecting to Microsoft mail servers (addresses of servers, ports, encryption, authentication).

When you install Office it's automatically linked to your Office 365 plan. Use this easy fix tool to uninstall Office and then follow the steps to reinstall Office.

Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant

The operating system on which your Office 365 applications are installed does not support the updated version of Microsoft Office 365. Windows 7 and Windows 8 do not support the latest Office 365 versions, and only Windows 10 supports these (Windows Server operating systems are not covered here). If multiple versions of Microsoft Office are installed, Office 365 activation issues may occur. Uninstall old versions of Microsoft Office from your computer and try to activate Microsoft Office 365 again. So you’ve decided to purchase and equip your business with the Office 365 program, but you encountered an error message in the middle of the installation. Most of the time, you may see an alert that says "It looks like you’re on slow connection" or you notice that the installation client suddenly hangs and closes.

You can't install the desktop PC or Mac versions of Office on your Chromebook, but depending on your Chromebook you may be able to install the Office mobile apps. The Microsoft 365 offline installer may help bypass potential proxy, firewall, antivirus, or Internet connection issues that might occur during an Microsoft 365 installation.
